What is Facet Lab?
Facet Lab is Windows software for designing a gemstone cut before you cut it: facet-by-facet diagrams, angles and index settings calculated for each tier, and simulated light return based on the material’s refractive index.
Which computers does Facet Lab run on?
Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. The recommended configuration is detailed on the Download page.
Can I try Facet Lab before buying it?
Yes. The trial version is a free download and gives access to all features for 30 days, on two computers. All you need is a free account, no credit card required: your trial key is waiting there. Each computer is entitled to only one trial.
How much does a license cost?
The license is perpetual, with no subscription; its price is shown on the Pricing page. It includes all updates free of charge, new versions included.
On how many computers can I use my license?
A license can be activated on two computers. Each new computer is confirmed by an email sent to the license holder. To switch computers, release the old seat from your customer area (two releases per 30-day period), then activate Facet Lab on the new one.
Do I need an Internet connection?
For activation, yes. During the trial, nothing more after that: it simply ends after 30 days. With a license, Facet Lab checks itself discreetly at each launch when a network is available; without a network, it works normally for 7 days, then switches to read-only mode (your files remain viewable) until the next connection.
What happens when I change the material?
Facet Lab recalculates the angles for the new refractive index: a cut optimized for sapphire can thus be adapted to quartz. Every value can still be adjusted by hand.
Does Facet Lab handle concave facets?
Yes. You specify a cylindrical, conical or spherical lap, its diameter and its orientation; Facet Lab calculates the curved surface of each facet, its meeting points and its effect on brightness in the rendering.
Can I design bicolor or multicolor stones?
Yes. You define color zones, separated by one or more planes or drawn freehand, then orient the cut to get a sharp transition or a blend across the table.
How does payment work?
By card, on the secure page of our payment provider, Mollie. The license key is available in your customer area as soon as the payment is confirmed, and an invoice is sent to you.
